Dr. Mirakian was accredited in Immunology in 1997 following her training at the Immunology department of the Middlesex Hospital, London. She worked as a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Immunology at Barts and the London NHS Trust until 2003 contributing, in addition to clinical research in autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, in the early years of her appointment, to the running of the routine immunopathology diagnostic laboratory.
She also held a Locum Consultant position in Allergy at Barts and the London NHS Trust and subsequently at the Rhinology/Allergy department of the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital, London. After being appointed as a Locum Consultant at Addenbrookes University Hospital in Cambridge she was offered a substantive Consultant position in the same department.
Dr. Mirakian was one of the early members of the Standards of Care Committee of the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (BSACI).
Her main interests relate to the field of drug allergy, rhinology and allergen specific desensitisation therapy. She is also interested in managing patients with complex symptoms compatible with Allergy/Clinical Immunology.
She has contributed to the preparation of several National Guidelines for the management of allergic conditions. She is the Lead author of the BSACI guideline on the 'Management of Drug Allergy' and the 'Management of Allergy to Beta Lactam Antibiotics'. She has also contributed to the BSACI Guideline for the ‘Management of Rhinitis and Rhinosinusitis’.
She has more recently contributed to studies on Flucloxacillin, Clindamycin and more recently on polythelene glycol hypersensitivity reactions.
Her interest in the Rhinology field is on the management of 'Aspirin Exacerbated Airways Disease'. contributing to the development of an intranasal Lysine Aspirin challenge protocol to test patients with Aspirin sensitivity.
Dr. Mirakian has also Teaching commitments to the annual North East Anglia Allergy study day for General Practice and National training days for Allergy Trainees.
At the LAC, Dr. Mirakian is one of our experts in immuno-diagnostics and treats allergies of the upper and lower airway, adverse drug reactions, food allergy, urticaria and angioedema.
