He became a Consultant in Allergy and Immunology at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in 2016.
Dr Arumugakani was the clinical governance lead for the Allergy and Clinical Immunology department in Leeds and chaired the Immunoglobulin Panel.
He specialises in all aspects of allergy including hay fever, food allergy, pet allergy, drug allergy, inhalant allergy, venom allergy, urticaria (hives) and immunotherapy, as well as many aspects of clinical immunology (for example immunodeficiency concerns such as CVID, or other immunological conditions like hereditary angioedema).
He was actively involved in the initial trials of omalizumab for chronic urticaria and helped pioneer home therapy for the condition. He also provides expert advice on allergy and immunology blood testing.
Dr Arumugakani moved from Leeds to London in 2024 and is now the Clinical Lead for Allergy at University College London Hospital (UCLH). He focuses on evidence-based allergy testing, offering valuable advice to patients which helps to avoid expensive, unnecessary tests and encourages patients only towards the tests which will be useful to their specific circumstances.
Dr Arumugakani sees adult and adolescent patients (from age 12 upwards).
He is a member of the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (BSACI), the leading UK professional society for healthcare experts in this field.
