Can Dr Rothenberg see my child for general paediatric concerns, not just allergy?

Yes. Dr Rothenberg trained as a general paediatrician before specialising in allergy, so she can see children for wider health concerns as well as allergic ones. That background helps when symptoms have more than one possible explanation: a child's rashes, tummy problems or breathing symptoms are not always allergic.

What ages does Dr Rothenberg see, and where are appointments held?

She sees children from birth to 18, including babies and teenagers. All paediatric appointments are at our Marylebone clinic, 1 Orchard Street, London W1H 6HJ, close to Bond Street and Marble Arch. Video consultations are available at the same fee if you live outside London or would prefer to be seen remotely.

Do we need a GP referral, and how quickly can we be seen?

No referral is needed. You can book directly, and you do not need to be registered with a UK GP, which helps families visiting London or newly arrived here. Appointments are first come, first served and we can usually offer one within the same week. Many families see us for a specialist opinion while they wait for an NHS appointment.

What happens at a first appointment, and what does it cost?

A first appointment costs £350 and lasts up to an hour, so there is time to go through your child's history properly. It includes any prescriptions and a clinic letter, which Dr Rothenberg personally reviews before it is sent by secure email within 5–10 working days. Testing is charged separately and paid on the day. Appointments are paid directly, so please check the position with your insurer before booking if you plan to claim.

Will my child need an allergy test, and how young can a child be tested?

Please do not stop any of your child's medicines before speaking to us. Some can affect skin prick test results, but blood tests are not affected and we will talk it through when you book. You do not need to choose tests in advance: Dr Rothenberg takes a full history first and recommends only what will help. A skin prick test costs £200, is done in the same appointment and gives results in about 20 minutes. It is not recommended for babies who have not yet started solid food.

Can Dr Rothenberg help with my child's asthma or recurrent wheeze?

Yes, this is her particular area of expertise, and she is Paediatric Asthma Lead at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. She will take a detailed history, examine your child, and look at whether allergic triggers such as house dust mite, pets or pollen are involved, with allergy testing where that would help. You will leave with a clear treatment plan and any prescriptions your child needs.

Can Dr Rothenberg prescribe an adrenaline auto-injector and provide a plan for nursery or school?

Yes. Where a child needs one, she can prescribe an adrenaline auto-injector and go through how and when to use it. She also provides written allergy action plans and letters for nursery or school. Prescriptions are included in the consultation fee, and where your child qualifies for free NHS prescriptions she can write to your GP and ask for them to be issued that way.

Do you offer immunotherapy (desensitisation) for children?

Yes, for pollen allergies, including grass and tree pollen, and for house dust mite allergy. Immunotherapy gradually reduces how strongly the immune system reacts to an allergen, and is usually considered when symptoms stay troublesome despite the usual treatments. Suitability depends on your child's age, symptoms and test results. Food immunotherapy, and supervised food or drug challenges, are not part of our children's service.

Dr Rothenberg

Dr Tammy Rothenberg is a Consultant Paediatrician with specialist expertise in paediatric allergy, asthma and childhood eczema. She provides comprehensive assessment and management of a wide range of allergic and non-allergic conditions in children, combining specialist allergy knowledge with broad experience in general paediatrics.

Tammy is currently a Consultant Paediatrician and Allergist at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Her role includes the assessment and management of children with food allergies (e.g. cow's milk allergy, nut allergy or egg allergy), pet allergies, venom allergies, pollen allergies (hay fever) and other allergic conditions. She is also an expert in childhood asthma, eczema, recurrent rashes and urticaria (hives).

Alongside her allergy practice, Dr Rothenberg has extensive experience in general paediatrics and is able to assess wider childhood health concerns that may arise during consultation. Professional Background

Graduated from Oxford Medical School in 1997 and trained in the NHS as a general paediatrician, completing this and working as a Consultant Paediatrician with an Interest in Allergy from 2012.

Developed her interest in allergy during her paediatric training at St Mary’s Hospital, one of the UK’s leading allergy centres.

Cemented her specialist postgraduate training by completing an MSc in Allergy (Imperial 2015) on a full scholarship from the Allergy Academy.

Has a particular interest in childhood asthma and is the Paediatric Asthma Lead at Homerton Hospital, experienced in the diagnosis and management of asthma, recurrent wheeze and related respiratory conditions — helping children and families achieve good symptom control and long-term management.
